Mardis Gras:
In French, "Mardi Gras" literally means "Fat Tuesday,"
so named because it falls on the day before Ash
Wednesday.
It is generally accepted that Mardi Gras came to America
in 1699 with the French
explorer, Sieur d'Iberville. The festival had
been celebrated as a major holiday in Paris since the
Middle Ages.
At St. John’s we too celebrate Mardi Gras with an
evening of fellowship, great food and entertainment.
We add a silent auction to the event to help
provide
additional income.
Thanks to the Associate Vestry for making our Mardi Gras
efforts such a success.
